Hector Rex

Hector Rex is a Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, best known for taking charge of the Imperial war effort during the Siege of Vraks and personally banishing the Greater Daemon An’ggrath. He’s one of the rare few who’ve stood in the Emperor’s presence, and he’s a playable character in the tabletop game.

Who hector rex is

Rex serves the Ordo Malleus, the Inquisition’s daemon-hunting branch. During the Vraks campaign he held the rank of Lord Proctor of the Scarus Conclave, giving him authority over a whole region’s Inquisitorial operations.

He carries the title Auditorii Imperator, which means he’s been admitted into the Emperor’s presence. That’s a big deal. Very few people, even among Inquisitors, get that close to the Golden Throne.

  • Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus
  • Lord Proctor of the Scarus Conclave during the Siege of Vraks
  • Bearers of the title Auditorii Imperator, meaning he’s stood before the Emperor
  • Active from M41 onward, including the Judgement of Hellenus in 801.M41

Early life and augmentation

Rex started out as a psyker and was inducted into the Adeptus Astra Telepathica. He stood out as far more capable than his peers, so they separated him for genetic augmentation. That’s what gave him his famously massive physique.

After the augmentation he was handed to the Inquisition as an apprentice. His psychic talent and physical presence made him a natural fit for the Ordo Malleus.

The Siege of Vraks

While the Vraks rebellion was unfolding, Rex used the Emperor’s Tarot and uncovered a prophecy: the planet could fall and turn into a Daemon World. He wasn’t willing to let that happen.

He lobbied the Scarus Conclave for direct control of the war and pushed to induct the entire 88th Regiment of the Death Korps of Krieg into his own retinue. The Ordo Hereticus opposed him, arguing the war was theirs because the Apostate Cardinal Xaphan had incited it. Rex narrowly won the majority consensus.

He went to war alongside Captain Stern of the Grey Knights. Rex personally banished the Greater Daemon An’ggrath, and his leadership helped bring Vraks back into the Imperial fold. The planet was still tainted by Khorne and Nurgle, so he placed it under Malleus quarantine. The Ordo Hereticus wasn’t happy about that either.

Wargear and abilities

As an Inquisitor Lord, Rex has access to almost unlimited resources. He carries a force sword called Arias, the blade that banished An’ggrath, plus a storm shield and Artificer Armour modified for his size. His sidearm is a bolt pistol loaded with psycannon bolts.

He’s also a keen user of the Emperor’s Tarot and consults it before battle. On the tabletop he’s a potent psyker with Teleport Strike, a 4+ invulnerable save, and the Quarry rule that lets him re-roll hits and wounds against Chaos or Daemon units.
