Tarik Torgaddon

Tarik Torgaddon was the Captain of the Luna Wolves 2nd Company and one of the four captains in the Mournival, the inner circle that advised Primarch Horus. He’s remembered as the Legion’s best joker and a genuinely deadly fighter, and as one of the loyalists Horus tried to wipe out at Isstvan III.

Who he was

Torgaddon served in the Luna Wolves during the Great Crusade, rising to command the 2nd Company. When Garviel Loken joined the Mournival after Hastur Sejanus died, Torgaddon was the one who helped him settle in, cracking jokes and loosening Loken’s by-the-book streak.

He was the one who introduced Loken to the Warrior Lodges, framing them as a place where Astartes of any rank or company could meet as equals. That went some way to easing Loken’s suspicions about them.

  • Captain of the Luna Wolves 2nd Company
  • Member of the Mournival, Horus’s council of four captains
  • Known for humour and frontline skill in equal measure
  • Active roughly late M30 into M31

Murder, the Interex and the rot setting in

When the 63rd Expedition answered a distress call from the Blood Angels, Torgaddon’s company dropped onto Murder to look for survivors. There he befriended Emperor’s Children Captain Saul Tarvitz, but clashed hard with Lord Commander Eidolon, dressing him down for chasing glory at the cost of his men’s lives.

Back with the fleet, Torgaddon refused to join the purge of civilians who’d spoken out against the Astartes after Horus was wounded on Davin, and he quit the Warrior Lodges over it. He and Loken also opposed handing the dying Horus over to the Davinite priests, and they were right to: it was through the Davinites that Erebus got into Horus’s mind and turned him toward Chaos. When the two of them found the Kinebrach blade that had wounded Horus, they knew Erebus had betrayed them. Torgaddon’s response was to put a knife to Erebus’s throat.

Isstvan III and his death

Horus judged Torgaddon too loyal to the Emperor to ever turn, so he was marked for death in the virus bombing of Isstvan III. Saul Tarvitz got word of the betrayal to the loyalists in time, and Torgaddon survived the initial bombardment to fight on the surface.

He died on Isstvan III in 005.M31, killed by traitor Sons of Horus. He was succeeded in his role by Tormageddon.

Why he matters

Torgaddon is one of the clearest faces of the Horus Heresy’s tragedy: a loyal son of the Legion who saw the corruption coming, said so out loud, and paid for it. His friendship with Loken gives readers someone warm to hold onto as the Luna Wolves fall apart around them.

His stand against Erebus and the lodges also shows how the rot spread, not through one grand betrayal but through small compromises that loyalists like him refused to make.
