Angron

Angron is the Primarch of the World Eaters and one of the most tragic figures in Warhammer 40k. Kidnapped as an infant, enslaved as a gladiator, and implanted with rage-inducing tech called the Butcher’s Nails, he was the only Primarch forced into the Emperor’s service. He later fell to Chaos and became a Daemon Prince of Khorne.

Who is Angron?

Angron is the Primarch of the XII Legion, the World Eaters. He was scattered from Terra as a baby and landed on Nuceria, a brutal civilised world where he was captured by slavers and forced to fight as a gladiator.

His aggression was amplified by surgical implants called the Butcher’s Nails, which turned him into a near-mindless killing machine. When the Emperor found him, Angron was leading a slave rebellion. The Emperor teleported him away against his will, leaving his comrades to die. That betrayal never healed.

During the Horus Heresy, Angron sided with the Warmaster and fully gave himself to Khorne. After the Heresy he ascended, becoming a Daemon Prince. He’s still out there, leading his legion on campaigns of pure slaughter.

Why Angron matters

Angron is one of the most physically powerful Primarchs, often named alongside Leman Russ and Vulkan. He’s also the clearest example of what the Imperium does to the people it claims to save.

His story is a tragedy about rage and betrayal. The Emperor didn’t rescue him; he conscripted him. The World Eaters became a legion of butchers because their gene-father was broken before he ever took command.

As a Daemon Primarch, Angron is one of the biggest active threats in the setting. He’s led major wars like the First War for Armageddon and the Dominion of Fire, and he’s still a central figure in Khorne’s armies.

FAQ

Is Angron a Daemon Primarch?

Yes. After the Horus Heresy, Angron ascended to daemonhood and became a Daemon Prince of Khorne. He’s no longer mortal and exists as a being of pure rage and bloodshed.

What are the Butcher’s Nails?

The Butcher’s Nails are surgical implants that boost aggression and dull higher thought. They were forced on Angron as a gladiator and later copied into his legion. They cause constant pain and eventually kill the host.

Why did Angron turn against the Emperor?

The Emperor teleported Angron away from Nuceria against his will, leaving his rebel army to be slaughtered. Angron never forgave him, and that resentment made him easy prey for Horus during the Heresy.
