Aspect Warrior

Aspect Warriors are the Aeldari’s dedicated combat specialists, each shrine embodying a single facet of the war god Khaine. They’re the backbone of most Craftworld armies, and their rigid focus keeps the Aeldari’s volatile emotions from consuming them.

What is an Aspect Warrior?

An Aspect Warrior is an Aeldari who has chosen to walk the Path of the Warrior. They join an Aspect Shrine, a dedicated group that trains in one specific style of warfare, and learn to contain their violent impulses behind a War-Mask.

The War-Mask lets them release their fury only in battle. Outside of combat, they lift the mask and return to normal Craftworld life. Once they feel they’ve mastered their emotions, they leave the path and move on to something else.

The Path and the touch of Khaine

Many Aeldari feel what’s called the touch of Khaine: anger, fear, or resentment that threatens to overwhelm them. Walking the Path of the Warrior is how they learn to control and focus those feelings instead of falling into excess.

Shrines exist in numbers on every Craftworld. There, Exarchs train recruits in the shrine’s aspect, teaching them to form and control their War-Mask. The discipline is as much about emotional survival as it is about combat.

Exarchs and the Phoenix Lords

Exarchs are Aspect Warriors who can never lift their War-Mask. They stay in the shrine permanently, never leaving the Path of the Warrior, and serve as instructors and leaders.

Each aspect traces back to a founder who became its Phoenix Lord. The first aspects, created by Asurmen’s students the Asurya, are said to be eternal. They include the Dire Avengers, Howling Banshees, Fire Dragons, Dark Reapers, Swooping Hawks, and Striking Scorpions.

Known aspects and shrines

Nobody knows exactly how many aspects exist. New ones gain favour while others fade, and some are unique to a single Craftworld, like the Slicing Orbs of Zandros. The most common aspects have shrines on most Craftworlds.

While only the Crimson Hunter is named, many Aeldari aircraft are piloted solely by those on the Path of the Warrior.
