The Terran Crusade was Roboute Guilliman’s campaign to cross the galaxy and reach Terra after his resurrection, fought around 999.M41 in the chaos following the Thirteenth Black Crusade and the destruction of Cadia.
Why the crusade happened
Guilliman came back during the Ultramar Campaign, revived by Belisarius Cawl and Eldar allies while Abaddon’s forces were besieging Ultramar. Once the invaders were thrown out, he called a war council and got the full, ugly picture of what the Imperium had become.
He spent four days behind closed doors with Calgar, Tigurius, Voldus, Saint Celestine, Greyfax, and Cawl. When he came out, he’d made up his mind: he was going to Terra to take charge personally.
The pilgrimage
After a huge parade on Macragge to show off the reborn Primarch, Guilliman set off aboard the Macragge’s Honour. Word of his return spread fast, and reinforcements poured in from the Raven Guard, Space Wolves, White Scars, Dark Angels, and other Chapters like the Novamarines and Mortificators.
More followed: Imperial Guard, Navy, Mechanicus, Sisters of Battle, Knight Houses, and Titan Legions. It was a serious army, but the journey wasn’t going to be simple.
The Warp turns against him
Guilliman’s return didn’t go unnoticed by the Chaos Gods. The Great Game in the Warp escalated into a frenzy, and massive Warp Storms swept the galaxy on a scale not seen since the Age of Strife.
That turned what should’ve been a straightforward voyage into a nightmare. Magnus the Red and Mortarion both sensed his revival, and they weren’t about to let him reach Terra without a fight.

Captivity and the Battle of Luna
The crusade hit a low point when Guilliman was captured, though he didn’t stay that way for long. His forces fought their way free and pressed on toward Sol.
The final stretch played out at Luna, Terra’s moon. Guilliman’s fleet and ground forces clashed with Chaos and daemonic opposition before he could finally set foot on Terra itself.
What it changed
Guilliman reaching Terra didn’t just end a journey, it reshaped the Imperium’s leadership. He took command of the war effort and set in motion the reforms that would define the era that followed.
The Terran Crusade is often remembered as the moment the Imperium got a primarch back, right when it needed one most.
