Alicia Dominica is the founder and patron saint of the Adepta Sororitas, and the woman who famously beheaded the tyrant Goge Vandire. For the Sisters of Battle she’s more than a historical figure, she’s the reason their whole order exists.
Who she was
During the Age of Apostasy, Dominica led the Brides of the Emperor, the bodyguard corps that answered directly to High Lord Goge Vandire. She was loyal, dangerous and utterly convinced she was serving the Master of Mankind.
That loyalty was aimed at the wrong target. Vandire’s Reign of Blood had turned the Administratum into a slaughterhouse, and the Brides were the blade he kept closest.
- Leader of the Brides of the Emperor under Goge Vandire
- Later became Patron Saint of the Sisterhood
- Bearer of the Grail of Ages and founder of the Order of the Ebon Chalice
The Custodes, the tunnels and the Emperor
A small force of Adeptus Custodes fought its way into Vandire’s inner sanctum and ran straight into Dominica and her Sisters. Their leader, the Custodian Longinus, laid down his weapons and asked for parley instead of a fight. He argued that the Brides were serving evil in the Emperor’s name. His words didn’t convince them.
So he tried something else. Leaving his own men behind as hostages, Longinus led Dominica and five companions (Katherine, Silvana, Lucia, Mina and Arabella) through the tunnels beneath the Imperial Palace to the Golden Throne itself.
What happened in that chamber is unrecorded. What’s known is what came out: Dominica’s hair had turned white, and she carried a relic called the Grail of Ages. She and her companions rejected the name Brides and took back their old title, the Daughters of the Emperor.
Vandire’s end and the founding of the Sisterhood
The Daughters marched on Vandire’s throne room and found him mid-tirade. Dominica condemned him for his crimes, then took his head. Her words to him are carved on her sarcophagus, and they’re about as blunt as a death sentence gets: he’d turned his back on the Emperor, twisted everything the Emperor had built, and there could be no mercy for that.
After the dust settled, Sebastian Thor rebuilt the shattered Adeptus Ministorum. On Thor’s instructions, Dominica formally established the Sisterhood, the Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, split between the Convents on Terra and Ophelia VII. She served as both founder and overall patron, and the order grew past ten thousand Sisters over time.
Relics and legacy
The Grail of Ages is the big one. Dominica emerged from the Golden Throne carrying it, and the Order of the Ebon Chalice still guards its secrets today. Nobody outside that order seems to know exactly what it does.
Her sainthood is the other half of the legacy. She’s remembered as a Living Saint, the Sisterhood’s patron, and the proof that even the Emperor’s most loyal servants can be pointed at the wrong enemy, and then turned around.
